When I started out as a freelance translator back in the year 2000 I specialised in the legal and medical fields. Soon I was working as an interpreter in meetings, international conferences and Australian courts and tribunals —criminal and civil matters, Refugee Review Tribunal hearings and various types of interviews. In 2007, I joined the editorial team at McGraw-Hill Australia, gaining valuable experience in the publishing world for over a year.

I have also worked as a research assistant and done a number of stints as a tutor in different interpreting and translation areas at the universities of Western Sydney and New South Wales. Casual tutoring is something which I greatly enjoy and continue to do, on and off, since 2004. Additionally, I have been subtitling Spanish-language films and documentaries with the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) since April 2011. This allows me to combine my love of films with my interest in languages and creative writing.

Lastly, my daughters’ fascination with storytelling inspired me to start translating Australian children’s literature into Spanish, just for fun —and to share these stories with friends overseas.
